BOYNTON BEACH - The city aims to improve the dangerous whirlpool that is the Boynton Inlet, where boaters, snorkelers, surfers and other water enthusiasts brace themselves for overpowering waves.

A city-commissioned study released this month offered proposals to improve safety at the inlet. The most ambitious calls for widening it an additional 200 feet.

Less costly alternatives include dredging and deepening the inlet 5 or 10 feet or repositioning its southern jetty. Cost estimates range from $2.2 million for a simple dredging to $21.8 million for the 200-foot expansion.

i hope it doesn't mess up the waves or anything in general

This has been in the works for the past 2-3 years and the city will go forward with something. They REALLY want a drawbridge so they can sell the dockspace to bigger boats.

It'll most, likely adversely affect the waves as usual but if planned correctly could make them better.

they can do as much as they want to it will still create a shallow barrier from the north of the inlet heading south. the way the current pushs that sand every year it's just a waste of money. fighting mother nature......you never win.
