in surfer mag kelly says he isn't sure if the new wave pools are virus or vaccine to our sport. I like the idea of the wave pool, but I can see how it would upset some of the core surfers and old timers.

look up the definition of virus then think about the masses that now could practice on a wave as predictable as a skate ramp and if you can't figure it out then let your board hit you in the face a few times on your next go out.

a wave pool could not help someone in the real world or ocean.....paddling current..... chop.... rip tides.... un predictable waves....sneaker sets...... etc etc..sounds like it would prepare alot of people to drown...on the upside you dont have to worry about being somethings dinner or some fungus new home......

Virus or not, I'm game especially during the summer months..2-3 hours drive, 4-6 ft HIGHLY consistent wave, if I got the cash, I'm on it.
So what we got so far is....
Typhoon Lagoon, Learn to Surf Session approx. 1 hour for $150.
Typhoon Lagoon, Rent the Surf pool session, anyone know how much?
RonJons - opening sometime early to mid 2007 (according to ronjonsurfpark.com) - approx. $60 for a 2 hour session, round-about, cheaper if you got that cash for a membership (approx. 100sessions @ $30 each).
Are there any other surf type parks in the area besides quietwater?

Just another attraction (looks like a fun one at that!) - kinda like hitting the batting cages but with a lot more kick. As you can copy the wave you can't reproduce the true experience - that only the ocean can deliver.

just got back from Typhoon lagoon. Too bad, they only open it up to surfers early in the morning (for $150 a session). I'd really be ashamed if I paid that kind of money for that wave. Solid, 4 ft, fast closeout with nuttin' but whitewash. It walls up nicely, I guess it'd be a nice takeoff, but nowhere to go 'cept off the back. I asked 1 of the lifeguards how much they rent it out for, she didn't know much but heard they had rented it out to large company parties, for around $50K, ugk, yeah, I said, ack..ughk, $50k...
