Mucho to report from the salt-soaked news desk at Treasure coast Surfrider! Mark your calendars and program your Blackberries, folks, cause we have a busy calendar of surf, sweat and fun coming up!
First, if you haven't picked one up, grab the September "Green Issue" of Surfing Magazine and turn to page 109. Ya might just see your gorgeous mug gracing the pages of this worldwide surfing publication. The Treasure Coast chapter was featured along with other important "Everyday Surfers Making a Difference Every Day," like Eddie Vedder and Stone Gossard from Pearl Jam. Not too shabby folks! Keep up the good work!! Only now we have this big reputation to live up to!
And the best way to do that is to join us on Saturday, Sept. 16th, as we rock the boat with BUZZ 103.1, Keep Martin Beautiful and The Ocean Conservancy to help clean up our rivers, beaches and spoil islands. Vessels will be departing from Sandsprit Park in Port Salerno at 9:00 a.m. The clean-up will be followed by a free barbecue courtesy of Hutchinson Island Publix and BJ's Wholesale Club. All you need are gloves, a good attitude and your appetite. There should be plenty of boats, but PLEASE feel free to bring your boat if you have one. We have a lot of water to cover!! (Don't forget extra life jackets.) There will be music and prizes as well, so come out and have a great time doing some good! PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO DOWNLOAD THE ATTACHED FLYER AND DISTRIBUTE IT TO ANYONE WHO LOOKS REMOTELY SEAWORTHY! The wave forecast looks incredible for next week. On Saturday, Sept, 23rd, TC Surfrider is sponsoring a Martin County High School Surf Club contest, followed by a barbecue. (Yes, we love some good "Q.") If you can help judge the event, or just want to come out and see some awesome surfing, the event starts at 7:30 a.m. at the south end of Stuart Public Beach. These kids are super stoked -- they took out the Jupiter High School team in the last team challenge! The club is also helping us with the river clean up, so let's show them our support!
Then on Monday, Sept. 25th, join us at Stuart Grill & Ale, along with local punk legends SICK BOYZ, for our TC Surfrider Anniversary Party and the local premier of the psycho new SURF MOVIE "SECRET MACHINE" FROM GLOBE. Along with some of the SICKEST footage anywhere, this ground-breaking film explores the inner most thoughts of the best surfers in the world, including CJ and DAMIEN, TAJ, NOODLES, OCCY, YADIN and the rest of the Globe surf team, while they get totally mental in the water! This is a cinematic head trip you don't want to miss! There will be a ton of COOL RAFFLE ITEMS and AWESOME FOOD SPECIALS. Doors open at 7:00. Movie plays at 9:00. $5 ALL AGES.
We're also collecting photos for our ever-expanding slide show. So if you're holding some killer local shots or a secret stash from your surf trips feel free to e-mail them to us here (scenic stuff too), or throw them on a disc and bring it on the 25th.
ALSO, DON'T FORGET TO JOIN US THIS FRIDAY, SEPT. 8TH AT THE REFUGE IN STUART FOR THE PREMIER OF THE NEW HOMEGROWN SURF MOVIE "FLORIDA HOT SHOTS" PRESENTED BY SURF CENTRAL, ONE EYE PRODUCTIONS, KULCHA SURF AND SURF GURU. THE SULTANS OF SALERNO PORT SALERNO ALL STARS WILL BE IN THE HOUSE BLAZING THEIR SPECIAL BLEND OF IRIE SOUNDZ WITH GUESTS JETTY PARK. AND OF, COURSE LANCE-O OF KULCHA SHOK MUZIC WILL BE THERE TO MC THE ENTIRE SHENANIGANS! MOVIE SHOWS AT 8:00 AND 10:00. (FIRST SHOW IS ALL AGES). $5.
